Bringing FRMCS onboard
The global rail sector is on the cusp of a major transition, as the 2G telecoms technology GSM-R approaches the end of its life, to be replaced by the high capacity, low latency Future Railway Mobile Communications System. However, railways face a significant
challenge managing the migration from GSM-R to the future 5G-based platform, including navigating a period when both system will need to operate in parallel.
Join this broadcast featuring industry specialists as they discuss the key to successfully migrating to FRMCS. In particular, the discussion will focus on how infrastructure managers and the wider railway ecosystem can best prepare for the adoption of FRMCS.
Key topics to be covered will include:
- The current timescale for standardisation and adoption of FRMCS.
- The role of FRMCS in supporting train operations.
- The impact and benefits of this technology upgrade for train operating companies (RUs) and rolling stock leasing companies (ROSCOs).
- The role of suppliers in supporting infrastructure managers and operators through the migration.
- How the migration can be managed cost-effectively in an era of wafer-thin margins in the rail sector.
