Critical Communications Solutions for Transport
Communications technology has become the backbone of modern railway operations, as more and more systems exchange data between track and train.
As well as conventional voice communication between the controllers and drivers or passengers, data links are needed to support condition monitoring and fault diagnostics, CCTV and security alarms, and a growing range of other digital systems.
Meanwhile, communications-based train control systems and increased automation require secure channels for exchanging vital and mission-critical data.
In the latest live debate organised by Railway Gazette Events on June 16, a panel of high-level speakers will address the key issues:

Jose Martin M.Eng., President and CEO of PowerTrunk (www.powertrunk.com), is a veteran engineer and executive that served formerly as CTO and CMO of several land mobile radio and fiber optics cable manufacturers. As CMO of PowerTrunk’s parent company Teltronic (www.teltronic.es), spearheaded the international expansion of the company (1999-2013). Appointed COO (2009) and CEO (2013) of PowerTrunk, led the introduction of the TETRA technology in the United States and Canada. He’s served as Board Member of the Association of Electronic Industries of Spain (ASIMELEC) and Vice Chairman of the TETRA Rail Forum (TCCA). He lives in Jersey City, NJ (USA).
Keith Ammons holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology from Memphis State University and a Master of Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He has spent over 35 years in the communications-electronics sector and his experience includes project management, communications systems operations and maintenance, communication security, and sales and marketing activities. He is a former US Air Force communications and computer systems staff officer, and in 1993 he joined TELTRONIC, S.A.U. of Zaragoza, Spain, one of the world leading manufacturers of digital TETRA land mobile radio communications systems. In 2010, he joined the team of PowerTrunk Inc., Teltronic’s US subsidiary company, and since August 2013 he is PowerTrunk’s Vice President of Market Development.
Group Editor-in-Chief Chris Jackson joined Railway Gazette in 1982. Having held a variety of roles during the 1980s, Chris became Deputy Editor in 1991, and took over as Editor of Metro Report at the same time. He became Editor of Railway Gazette International in April 2006. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Transport and an Associate of the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers.
