From smarter and safer stations to predictive maintenance of infrastructure and rolling stock, the modern railway has the potential to transform its operations by embracing IoT sensors, machine learning and AI-driven analytics. Yet realising the potential of such technology in a live railway environment remains a challenge.

After graduating with a degree in Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering, Aoife moved to London from Ireland five years ago to work for London Underground. While there, Aoife worked in rolling stock renewals where she led retrofit improvement projects for the Bakerloo and Central Lines. In February 2018, Aoife joined Heathrow Express where she now works as the Fleet Engineering Manager, overseeing fleet maintenance and ensuring the safe and reliable running of the Cl332 and Cl360/2 fleets of trains between Paddington and Heathrow Airport.
Alongside her day job, Aoife is an active member of the Young Rail Professionals and also sits on the IMechE Railway Division Young Members Board
Giles leads the WSPs Future Mobility team in the UK and has over twenty nine years’ experience in the transportation planning and intelligent transport sectors.
He has worked in the public and private sectors as a senior client and director level consultant, and has led major projects across all transport modes with a particular understanding of the strategic needs and opportunities surrounding the transport challenges that face our networks, places and citizens.
Giles is one of only a few recognised UK experts in the field of Future Mobility having led work for DfT, TfN, TfSE, EEH, TfGM, TfWM, WYCA, numerous local authorities, ADEPT, transport operators and private sector developers / asset owners.
A strategic thinker with an in depth appreciation of the challenges facing all modes of transport / mobility as a result of disruptors, both within the transportation realm and wider socio-economic changes which influence it.
Giles regularly presents insights on Future Mobility at events and conferences, in the UK and elsewhere, and has contributed to WSPs own research.
